Rice, Harvard and tuition
· In wake of a rising tide of calls for top universities to use more of their endowment money to help students with the cost of tuition, Harvard has severely lowered tuition for students from middle and upper class families (see story, page 1).
Rice PR made the right choice in Wilson drama
· Over the last month, the Rice University name has been tossed around the national media circuit, from local news affiliates to the Associated Press to the New York Times, all in an attempt to find Hanszen College junior Matthew Wilson.
New Year's resolutions
· We know that New Year's Day was nearly two weeks ago, but New Year's resolutions are still fresh and we have thought of a few good ones.
It is called law school, not lawyer school
· Last December, Stanford Law School held a gathering of deans from 10 law schools that are in the process of revamping their educational programs -- one of many meetings springing up in attempts to revamp legal education. The apparent problem is that law school students do not graduate with the practical skills not necessary to be practicing lawyers. And as a second semester senior desperately -- oh Jeebus desperately -- applying to law school, I cannot help but stand athwart this plan, yelling "stop."
