Men’s soccer final set: Sid to play GSA again

Champions Division runner-up Sid Richardson (4-1) recorded its second shutout of the year and earned a trip to the men’s soccer final with a 1-0 shutout of previously undefeated Premier Division champion Brown (3-1-1). Sid moves on to play two-time defending champion GSA (4-0-1) in Sunday’s final, which defeated Baker (2-1-2) by a 5-2 score in the other semifinal. GSA beat Sid 5-0 in regular season play.

Men’s Flag Football

In another epic battle between college football powerhouses, American Football League champion Sid (4-0) defeated United States Football League runner-up and rival Wiess (3-2) by a 12-6 margin April 3 to advance to the final. In the other semifinal, USFL champion Martel (4-1) won convincingly 33-12 over AFL runner-up Lovett (2-2) and will meet two-time defending champion Sid in the final.

Women’s Volleyball

Set Division champion Brown (5-0) ended Spike Division runner-up Will Rice’s (2-2) bid to repeat as women’s college volleyball champion with a 25-6, 25-20 victory April 4. Brown will meet Spike Division winner Sid (4-0) in the final after Sid defeated Wiess (3-2) 25-21, 25-19.

Open Floor Hockey

Campbell Conference champion Jones (4-1) earned a trip to the floor hockey final Tuesday with a 2-0 shutout of Baker (2-2), which finished second in the Wales Conference. Jones moves on to play two-time defending champion GSA (3-1), which won 4-3 over Brown (2-2-1) Wednesday in the other semifinal. Wales Conference champion GSA won the championship last year.

Men’s Softball

In the first semifinal, Pine Tar Division champion Jones (4-1) doubled up Corked Bat Division runner-up Lovett (2-3) winning 16-8 Tuesday. The other semifinal pits last year’s finalists, undefeated Corked Bat Division champion Brown (4-0) and defending champion Hanszen (2-2), against each other.

Women’s Softball

Grapefruit League champion Hanszen (3-0-1) earned a spot in the final with a 14-9 win Tuesday over defending champion GSA (3-2). Hanszen’s win avenged its 10-3 loss to GSA in last year’s final. The other semifinal between undefeated Cactus League champion Will Rice (4-0) and Sid (2-1) will be played Sunday at 2 p.m.

Coed Table Tennis

The college table tennis final will feature two unbeaten teams, as Pool A champion GSA (4-0) will play Will Rice (4-0) sometime before April 22. Pool B champion Will Rice advanced to the final with a close 4-3 win over Pool A runner-up Jones (3-2).

Women’s Soccer

None of last year’s four women’s soccer playoff teams qualified for the postseason this year. Last year’s finalists, Sid (1-3) and Wiess (2-1-1), failed to qualify for this year’s playoffs due to forfeits. Martel (2-1-1) will meet Jones (3-1) tomorrow at 3 p.m. in one semifinal and Hanszen (4-0) and Will Rice (0-1-3) will play Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in the other semifinal.
