Owls lose 51-10 at Texas
For the second consecutive week, the football team was routed by a top-25 team, losing to second-ranked University of Texas 51-10 Sept. 17 in Austin.
Texas (3-0) took control early and led 42-0 at halftime after freshman running back Jamaal Charles rushed for 171 yards and three touchdowns.
Junior running back Quinton Smith led the Rice (0-2) rushing attack, gaining 76 yards on 11 carries, including 42 yards on the first Owl drive. Smith, a native of nearby Cedar Park, said a fast start was important in front of his home crowd.
