Sid Rich, Jones to meet in men’s flag football final
For the second straight year, Sid Richardson (3-1) and Jones (4-1) will meet in the men’s flag football final. In the semifinals, Sid rolled through Lovett (3-2) easily, chalking up a 19-0 win. Jones, however, just squeaked by, as Monday League champion Martel (3-1) fell short 26-25.
Coed flag football
The same core group of Powderpuff players that has produced three straight undefeated championship seasons propelled Sid (5-1) to the coed flag football title Monday. Sid defeated Grey League champion Martel (5-1) by a 19-7 margin. Martel had beaten Sid 10-7 in the regular season. Sid junior Christi Disch was named Most Valuable Player of the league.
Men’s soccer
Last Friday, Sid (4-1) ended GSA’s (3-2) reign as men’s soccer champions, winning its semifinal 3-0. Brown (3-1-1) continued its run from the brink of elimination with a narrow win over Championship Division winner Jones (4-1) by a 4-3 score in penalty kicks after the game ended in a 2-2 tie. Brown was nearly disqualified from the playoffs after playing with a community associate, but was able to re-qualify when opponents Will Rice (1-3) and Wiess (2-1-1) agreed to replay their matches with Brown.
Women’s soccer
Sunday League champion Sid (4-0) punched its ticket to the women’s soccer final with a tight 2-1 win over Brown (3-1) Sunday. In the final, Sid will square off with GSA (5-0), which beat Lovett (1-2-1) in the other semifinal.
Women’s volleyball
GSA (4-1) rolled to a two-set win over Tuesday League champion Baker (3-1) March 24 in the first women’s volleyball semifinal, 25-10, 25-20. Monday League champion Brown (4-1) needed three sets to defeat Sid (2-2) in the other semifinal on Monday. They will move on to face GSA in the final.
Men’s softball
The playoff bracket was set Sunday as Hanszen (3-0) clinched the top seed in the Sunday League with a close 10-9 win over Jones (1-2). Previously winless, Lovett (1-2) made the playoff race interesting in the Sunday League with an 8-6 win over Brown (1-2). Lovett’s win caused a three-way tie for second in the division, and Brown won the tie-breaker by point differential to secure a playoff spot.
Brown will play Wednesday League champion Will Rice (4-0) in the first semifinal Monday at 9 p.m. The other semifinal will pit Hanszen against Sid (3-1).
Women’s softball
Grapefruit League champion Hanszen (4-0) clinched a spot in the women’s softball final with a nail-biting 8-7 win over Lovett (3-2) Sunday. Defending champion Hanszen will move on to face the winner of Will Rice (2-1) and GSA (4-0).
Open floor hockey
Jones (2-0-1) used an 8-4 win over Will Rice (0-3) March 23 to clinch the top seed in the Thursday League. They will face Wednesday League runner-up Lovett (2-1) in the first semifinal Sunday at 7 p.m. Brown (2-0-1), which won its final game of the season by a 4-2 margin over Martel (1-2), will face Wednesday League champion GSA (3-0) on Monday at 7 p.m. in the other semifinal. Martel netted its only win of the season with a 7-5 victory over winless Will Rice to end the regular season.
